Kate Colburn Elected to Board of Trustees for the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York State

White Plains, NY (PRWEB) June 22, 2009 -- Kate Colburn, executive director of Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW), has been elected to a three-year term on the Board of Trustees for the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of New York State (HPCANYS).

HPCANYS is a not-for-profit organization representing hospice and palliative care programs, allied organizations and individuals. As a board member, Colburn is being recognized as a leader within the hospice and palliative care community who demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to hospice care.

In her role as executive director of HPCW, Colburn oversees the management of the White Plains-based non-profit organization while ensuring that the program's clients and families receive the care and attention they need. Her responsibilities include budget and policy development, strategic planning, management team supervision, and human resources oversight.

Colburn has dedicated her career to hospice care. Prior to joining HPCW she served as executive director of Hospice of Central Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa and Hospice Care, Inc., in Stoneham, Massachusetts. She continued her work as principal for Palliative Care Options in Kings Park, New York, where she developed tools to assess compliance for home care and hospice programs. In addition, she has presented workshops on hospice and palliative care and was a keynote speaker at the First East-West International Conference on Hospice Care in Tianjin, China.

Colburn received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her Master of Arts in Psychology and Applied Analysis of Behavior from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She has completed courses in public policy and business administration at Iowa State University and at the University of Northern Iowa. The author of numerous articles on hospice care, Colburn has been recognized for her leadership in the field by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice and Who's Who in Health Care in America.
